Eagles predicted to form Big 3 at cornerback in trade for 24-INT superstar

After hitting on a pair of franchise cornerstones in the 2024 NFL Draft in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, could the Philadelphia Eagles swing big in 2025 to form an elite trio for defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s secondary?

While both Mitchell and DeJean performed well beyond their years as rookie starters in 2024, the team is actually extremely thin behind them entering the on-field portion of the offseason. DeJean was so spectacular at the nickel spot that it’s hard to see the team moving him to the boundary. That leaves players like aging veteran Adoree Jackson, young reserve Kelee Ringo, rookie Mac McWilliams and the undrafted Eli Ricks all battling for reps opposite Mitchell in Fangio’s defense.

There are actually some solid veterans still available in free agency, like old friend Rasul Douglas, Asante Samuel Jr. and Stephon Gilmore. Brad Crawford of CBS Sports, however, sees GM Howie Roseman going bold in a trade for superstar cornerback Jalen Ramsey, whose camp has reportedly been working with the Dolphins front office in hopes of facilitating a trade out of Miami.

“Adding a seven-time Pro Bowler to a locker room coming off a Super Bowl title is a no-brainer for Howie Roseman if the details work out,” Crawford wrote. “With former 2024 first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell and 2023 fourth-rounder Kelee Ringo expected to start, Ramsey could take Ringo's spot and bolster a budding unit.”

Adding Ramsey to a secondary that already includes Mitchell, DeJean and safety Reed Blankenship would be elite work from Roseman, who has the wealth of draft capital in 2026 needed to make a deal. The Eagles love bringing in big-name talent — especially when said talent comes at a discount and is hungry for a Super Bowl ring.

The real sticking point here would be Ramsey’s contract, as he’s set to make over $24 million per year and is currently signed through the 2028 season.

Roseman loves to work the trade market, as he did earlier this year in deals that shipped out quarterback Kenny Pickett and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. The motive behind those moves was to cut future salary, however, and adding Ramsey would do the opposite, as the cap hits on his deal soar beyond $25 million starting in 2026. Ramsey will also be 34 years old in the final year of his current contract, which adds a serious layer of doubt.

Ramsey would be an excellent addition for any team, but especially Philly, which could use another veteran or two on defense. Unless the Dolphins are eating a record amount of cash in a potential deal, or Miami’s willing to take Bryce Huff and his egregious contract off Philly’s hands, this take feels more like a dream than reality.
