Eagles predicted to cut ties with $10 million Pro Bowler at 2025 trade deadline

Despite a steady stream of trade speculation and some cryptic comments from team brass, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert survived the offseason and is expected to be back on the field operating as Jalen Hurts’ No. 3 target in the passing game this year.

How many actual games Goedert has left in an Eagles uniform, though, is fair to question at this point.

While Goedert left money on the table by punting extension talks and agreeing to a restructured, $10 million contract for 2025, Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report believes the trade winds could start blowing once again by midseason.

Sobleski predicts Goedert will be moved prior to the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline for a package that includes a 2026 fifth-round pick and a swap of late-round selections (a seventh-rounder for a sixth-rounder, for example). Unlike last season, Philly now has a fully stocked tight end room that also includes Grant Calceterra, Kylen Granson, Harrison Byrant and 2024 training camp standout E.J. Jenkins.

“This year's restructured deal and the respect the Eagles front office has for Goedert means it's not actively searching to move the tight end,” Sobleski wrote. “However, a midseason move could make sense, especially if Calcaterra becomes more of a presence in the scheme.”

If the Eagles are going to extend their players, they tend to do it early, with the most recent examples being RB Saquon Barkley, center Cam Jurgens and RT Lane Johnson. Tenured players who hit contract years — Josh Sweat and Milton Williams, for example — tend to move on. Sweat’s a perfect comp, as he agreed in 2024 to restructure his deal for an almost identical one-year, $10 million before balling out in a contract year and cashing in with the Arizona Cardinals.

Philly was reportedly seeking a Day 3 pick for Goedert during April’s draft, but couldn’t find a partner. Assuming the team is ready to move on in 2026 no matter what, it would make sense for GM Howie Roseman and Co. to try and recoup some compensation for Goedert, especially if he can stay healthy and continue to perform at a Pro Bowl-caliber level.
