The Philadelphia Eagles went extremely thin at the tight end position in 2024, often carrying just two players at the position — Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra — on the active roster.
GM Howie Roseman and Co. have taken the opposite approach to 2025, signing a pair of free agent tight ends in Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson. The team currently has seven total tight ends on the 90-man roster, and all seven are playing on expiring contracts.
The Eagles’ next franchise tight end is not currently on the roster, and that means more moves could be coming at that position from Roseman in the trade market.

Eagles insider Anthony DiBona recently proposed a trade idea with the Green Bay Packers for former No. 42 overall pick Luke Musgrave. “Howie Roseman should trade for a young TE on a rookie deal with two years remaining under contract this offseason,” DiBona wrote. “... Luke Musgrave would certainly make sense.”
Musgrave makes for an intriguing trade option, as he’s almost identical in size to Goedert at 6-foot-6, 253 pounds and is about to enter his age-25 season. The former Oregon State star caught 34 passes for the Packers as a rookie, but he’s since slipped behind the emerging Tucker Kraft on Green Bay’s depth chart.
Philly recently restructured Goedert’s contract to keep him entrenched as one of Jalen Hurts’ top targets. Calcaterra filled the No. 2 tight end role admirably in 2024, but even with this year’s new additions, the Eagles are thin on high-threat pass catchers behind Goedert.

Another factor that could make Musgrave attractive on the trade market? He’s cheap. He’s scheduled to count just $2.3 million against the salary cap this season, entering the penultimate year of his $8.4M rookie contract.
Roseman’s always planning ahead, so it would be shocking if the team started the 2025 season with no tight ends under contract through at least 2026.
