Report: Chargers Week 1 opponent for game in Brazil revealed

9 hours ago 1

The Los Angeles Chargers will open the 2025 NFL season in Sao Paulo, Brazil as the NFL holds a game there in Week 1 for the second consecutive season. That much we already know, what we're still waiting on is who their opponent will be.

The league intends to unveil its entire schedule for the 2025 season on Wednesday, May 14th but a report from Front Office Sports reveals that the team will face the Kansas City Chiefs in that game.

The matchup makes sense as last year, the Philadelphia Eagles began their season in Brazil and went all the way to the Super Bowl, beating the Chiefs to win their second Lombardi Trophy. Now, the Chiefs could have to take the same road to get back.

The Chiefs, who are the league's top ratings draw, would be in the first-ever game to be broadcast for free on YouTube, which means it could be one of the most-watched games in history.

The Chiefs swept the season series with the Chargers last year, but it wasn't easy. Jim Harbaugh has his sights on taking the AFC West crown away from Andy Reid this season and he feels like he has the roster to do it. This would be a potentially emphatic way to start the season for the Chargers.

The Chiefs have taken the last seven games against the Chargers, with the last Los Angeles win coming in September 2021. Both teams have played in three games outside the United States since the league started its international series in 2007. The Chargers have gone 1-2 in those games while the Chiefs have gone 3-0.

This matchup, if the report is accurate, will be made official on Wednesday night. It will take place on Friday, September 5th.
