The Philadelphia Eagles have lost another Super Bowl champion.
In free agency, Reed Blankenship chose to leave town and instead sign with the Houston Texans.
The deal, according to multiple reports, is for three years and $24.75 million, and it was signed late Monday.
It's a tough one for the Eagles. Blankenship had been such a reliable safety for them.
He actually wasn't even drafted out of Middle Tennessee State, but he played in 56 games over the past four seasons, 50 of them starts.
In his 10 games in 2022 as a rookie, he had 34 tackles and one interception.
Blankenship broke out in 2023 with 113 tackles, three interceptions and 11 passes defensed.

In 2024, he added 78 tackles and four interceptions.
The 2025 season featured another 83 tackles and an interception from Blankenship.
Now, the Eagles will have to find a way to replace him in the secondary.
It's a potentially huge pickup for the Texans. Houston had already the NFL's arguably top defense in the 2025 season, and it carried them into the playoffs and to a playoff victory.
The Texans want to get past the Divisional Round for the first time, though, and so they aren't sitting back. This is the kind of upgrade, both talent-wise and with winning experience, that can help push Houston to the next level.
