Eagles blockbuster trade rumor could result in shocking deal with 49ers or Chiefs

Rumors surrounding a potential blockbuster trade involving the Philadelphia Eagles will continue to surface until a deal materializes.

There’s a good chance the two-time Super Bowl champions will complete a trade involving their superstar wide receiver, A.J. Brown, but there’s no telling exactly how things will play out during the rest of the offseason.

SportsBoom’s J.L. Canfora recently reported that while the New England Patriots haven’t dropped in the Brown sweepstakes rankings, the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs are underrated suitors for the three-time Pro Bowler.

“The Eagles are under no pressure to get him (Brown) to another team early next month, though his ongoing tension with the organization is something that would ideally get sorted out sooner rather than later, but there is also the possibility that a contending team loses a top receiver to injury in the next six weeks with spring practices underway, which could spice up the market for Brown,” Canfora wrote Tuesday.

“Patriots have been the team most heavily linked with Brown, but the Chiefs, for instance, were linked with many receivers in the top of the draft but leaned heavily into fortifying the defense on the first two days of selections.”

“The 49ers, who at some point will part with awol receiver Brandon Aiyuk, have a very high payroll as it stands, and their cap space has been an issue, but even with Mike Evans there, one could make a case for Brown, especially with some of the recent injuries to some of their top pass catchers.”

It’s hard to imagine the 49ers or Chiefs outbidding the Patriots for Brown. New England needs Brown’s services more than every other contending franchise, given they're without a No. 1 wide receiver months before the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

Why does that matter? Well, it indicates that the Patriots, who are fresh off a Super Bowl appearance in Mike Vrabel’s first season as New England’s head coach, will likely be willing to do whatever it takes to steal Brown from Philadelphia to position themselves for another deep postseason run.

It doesn’t necessarily mean the 49ers and Chiefs are out of the equation; it simply gives the Patriots a clearer incentive to be the most aggressive suitors for Brown on the trade market.
