Former NBA star Dwight Howard has filed for divorce from his wife, Amber Howard—better known publicly as Amy Luciani—just days after she posted an emotional social media video accusing him of behavior that allegedly led to Child Protective Services intervening in their household.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Dwight Howard filed for divorce on Monday morning, March 9, in Georgia. In the paperwork, the former NBA champion described the marriage as “irretrievably broken” and stated there was no hope of reconciliation. Howard listed the couple’s marriage date as Jan. 11, 2025, and indicated they are not currently separated. The filing also requests exclusive use of his Georgia mansion while the divorce process moves forward.

The legal move comes shortly after Luciani posted a now-deleted Instagram video that quickly circulated online. In the clip, she claimed CPS had visited the home multiple times and ultimately removed her daughter. The video drew widespread attention across social media platforms and sports media outlets, bringing renewed focus to Howard’s personal life outside of basketball.

Howard, an eight-time NBA All-Star best known for his years with the Orlando Magic and his role on the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 championship team, has remained a recognizable figure in the basketball world even after stepping away from the league. Luciani, a rapper, entrepreneur, and reality television personality, had frequently shared glimpses of their relationship online before the recent dispute became public.

In the viral video, Luciani said authorities had been called to the home repeatedly. “CPS has been here three times in less than three months,” she said. She also appeared to accuse Howard of struggling with substance abuse while holding up a small bag containing a white substance. “I’ve been trying to tell everybody, he needs some help,” she said in the clip.

Their relationship has been marked by legal complications before this latest development. Luciani initially filed for divorce in July 2025, roughly six months after their wedding. A mutual restraining order was filed shortly afterward, though both sides later dismissed their petitions and attempted to continue the marriage.
