Duke legend predicted to join new NBA team

Duke has produced so many exciting NBA players.

One of the more disappointing professional Blue Devils careers in recent years looks like it’ll get another chapter nonetheless.

Former No. 2 overall pick Marvin Bagley is going to be a free agent.

SI’s Ben Stinar writes, “There will likely be several teams willing to take a chance on him.”

Bagley played for both the Washington Wizards and the Memphis Grizzlies during his seventh NBA season.

He actually had a wildly effective first-round playoff game for the Grizzlies. He put up 17 points and five rebounds in 16 minutes, making all eight of the shots he attempted.

For the regular season, Bagley averaged 4.4 points per game.

The big lefty was once chosen before Trae Young and Luka Doncic in the NBA Draft (he went before Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, too, but SGA was never a consideration that high).

But he has never quite been able to find stardom at the NBA level.

Like Stinar said, his age and pedigree probably point to him getting another few chances at the NBA level.

But at this point, Bagley’s best basketball days will almost certainly remain at Duke. There, playing for Coach K, he was at his best.

At the professional level, Bagley has only been able to be a journeyman.
