Draymond Green and Victor Wembanyama produced one of the most heated moments of the 2025-26 NBA season on Friday during the fourth quarter of the Spurs-Warriors NBA Cup contest. Green bothered Wembanyama until that point with his physicality and trash-talking.

Wembanyama didn't seem bothered by it, but the Spurs star patiently waited for his moment to get his lick back on the Warriors star. The opportunity came by on a baseline out-of-bounds play as Green looked to deny Wembanyama from getting the ball.

The refs even intervened after things seemingly escalated, but Green and Wembanyama both convinced the overaggressiveness wasn't an issue. Despite Green's best efforts, he was called for a foul on Wembanyama, who soared for a left-handed dunk that didn't count.

That didn't stop Wembanyama from getting in Green's face, sparking a verbal altercation. "Professional Lip Reader" LegendZ, who has been featured on ESPN before for breaking down an altercation, released the alleged back-and-forth between Wembanyama and Green on Saturday.

"On your head," Wembanyama said to Green after the dunk. "You're a**, ni**a. You're trash, n**ga," Green replied.

Victor Wembanyama got Draymond Green in foul trouble shortly, but it didn't matter. The Spurs lost 109-108 after miscues in the clutch. On the other hand, Green's defense played a key role alongside Steph Curry's 49-point game to give the Warriors a second win in three nights over Wembanyama's Spurs.

Draymond Green caused plenty of issues for Victor Wembanyama in their two-game mini-series

Nobody has quite found the solution to Victor Wembanyama's prowess on offense. The 7-foot-5 star's length and versatility have allowed him to dominate his opponents at will, especially in single coverage.

However, Draymond Green comparatively found tremendous success in the Warriors-Spurs two-game series. While Steph Curry carried the load offensively with 94 points across both matchups, Green limited Wembanyama to 8 of 21 shooting and forced six turnovers in 14 minutes of guarding the former No. 1 pick.

Despite having a significant disadvantage due to his size, Green managed to guard Wembanyama due to his IQ and strong base as a one-on-one defender. Green read the Spurs' plays for Wembanyama to make him uncomfortable and keep him away from the rim, where he would have a distinct advantage against every player on the Warriors.
