The Golden State Warriors’ title outlook this season has come under scrutiny, including questions about the long-term future of veteran forward Draymond Green, who has long been known for clashes that have at times involved his own teammates.

The Warriors are only in their second three-game winning streak of the season and head into Sunday’s matchup against the Toronto Raptors, the opener of a three-game road trip, holding a 16-15 record.

Green’s on-court output has also been questioned, as he is averaging 8.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 40.4% this season, all figures that fall below his career norms. Fans took to Threads to debate whether the Warriors’ dynasty has reached its end, with one fan posting:

“The current Golden State Warriors’ situation is a prime example of why it’s ok to break up an aging dynasty immediately after a championship run!”

Another fan responded by referencing Green’s infamous punch of Jordan Poole during an October 2022 practice and the extension he later signed with Golden State in July 2023:

“Just don't pay the cancer Draymond $50M after he ruined the team chemistry immediately after the '22 championship.”

Green pushed back on that claim, correcting the fan by stating that his four-year extension was not worth $50 million, but rather a $100 million contract.

Steve Kerr wants Draymond Green to finish career with Warriors

Last week, Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Draymond Green were involved in a heated exchange that went viral and ultimately led to the forward stepping away from the team.

Before Christmas, Kerr addressed the incident, explaining that both sides had apologized and also touched on Green’s long-term place within the franchise.

"I care so much about Draymond, and the relationship we have is like family, and like family, you go through ups and downs,” Kerr said. “And my No. 1 goal, honestly, is for him to finish his career as a Warrior with us fighting -- metaphorically, not literally -- and competing together until we're both gone. “And I believe that's going to happen because I believe in Draymond, and I believe in myself and I believe in everything we've built for 12 years."

Draymond Green will turn 36 in March and is currently the fourth-oldest player on the Warriors’ roster, trailing only Al Horford (39), Steph Curry (37) and Jimmy Butler (36).
