Chris DeMarco and Draymond Green joined the Warriors in the same year. DeMarco’s first brush with coaching in the NBA came after Mark Jackson made him part of his coaching staff. When the Warriors brought in Steve Kerr in 2014 to replace Jackson, Kerr kept DeMarco.

Meanwhile, Green was the Warriors’ second-round pick in 2012. After picking Harrison Barnes (No. 7) and Festus Ezeli (No. 30) in the first round, the team made the former Michigan State forward the No. 35 pick in the draft.

DeMarco and Green won four championships together in six NBA Finals appearances. The former is reportedly a brilliant defensive tactician, while the latter is the team’s defensive lynchpin and the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year. They were key components to an underrated part of the Warriors’ dynasty.

Chris DeMarco has large shoes to fill in New York. He will replace Sandy Brondello, who guided the Liberty to its first franchise championship in 2024. Brondello also helped the team win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup in 2023.

Draymond Green supports Golden State Valkyries

Draymond Green will not transfer his allegiance to the New York Liberty even with Chris DeMarco becoming the team’s new coach. As long as he remains with the Warriors, he will be a fan and supporter of the Golden State Valkyries.

The Valkyries, the WNBA’s 2025 expansion team, share the same owners as the Warriors. On multiple occasions during the Valkyries’ campaign, Green and even DeMarco wore shirts supporting their women’s team.

Green is a loyal teammate and a Joe Lacob supporter. He will not change his support for the Valkyries even when DeMarco moves on to New York.
