Draymond Green abruptly leaves court mid-game after explosive Steve Kerr blowup

Tension is boiling over in Golden State.

Warriors star Draymond Green walked off the court in a huff after a lengthy argument with coach Steve Kerr during a third-quarter timeout while trailing the Magic by five Monday night.

It is unclear what happened in the argument, although Green had just turned the ball over and was in the middle of engaging with an official when he and Kerr got into it on the sideline.

Both parties kept it coy when discussing the heated moment where Green went to the locker room for the remainder of the third quarter before coming back out in his warmup gear in the fourth.

Forward Moses Moody and assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse attempted to calm Green down to no avail.

Green returned to the bench for the fourth quarter, although Kerr said that Green “wasn’t going back in.”

“Yeah, we got into it obviously, and you know I took the timeout because I felt we lost our focus. We had it out a little bit,” Kerr said after the 120-97 win. “He made his decision to go back to the locker room to cool off. That’s all I’m going to say about it. Everything is private.”

The incident may have lit a fire under the team with the Warriors outscoring the Magic, 54-26, from that point forward.

The volatile Green didn’t shed much more light on the incident.

“Tempers spilled over, and I just thought it was best that I get out of there,” Green said postgame. “I don’t think that was a situation where it was gonna get better, so it was just best to remove myself. That’s it.”

Kerr said that the Warriors “need Draymond” for the rest of the season as they look to compete in a crowded NBA Western Conference.

The Warriors (15-15) are in a tricky spot, given their roster is filled with aging stars and they need to maximize what’s left of Steph Curry’s prime.

Curry, who finished with 26 points, caught fire in the second half after Green went to the locker room.

“They were just having a good conversation,” Curry said.

The Warriors face the Mavericks on Christmas Day in a primetime matchup.
