The Cleveland Cavaliers are now the third seed in the Eastern Conference. This is a fantastic development for the Cavs after a slow start to the 2025-26 season. Moving forward, the Cavs look primed to be in title contention.
After their 118-113 win over the Charlotte Hornets, the Cavs now sport a 36-21 record. They are the hottest team in the league with a seven-game winning streak. It also appears that superstar guard Donovan Mitchell is motivated to keep helping Cleveland succeed.
Mitchell strengthens his commitment to Cleveland
The Cavaliers are one of the most interesting franchises in the NBA because they always find a way to be competitive. In the past, they always had draft picks to build around, like LeBron James and Kyrie Irving.
Over the years, they have made some intelligent front office decisions, including the trade for Donovan Mitchell. Considering Cleveland is not the biggest team, some people are worried about Mitchell leaving them.

That has been silenced by Mitchell's long-term commitment to the Cavaliers. He signed a contract extension that will make him stay with Cleveland until after the 2026-27 season.
After their latest game against the Hornets, Mitchell strengthened his commitment to Cleveland, as he showed them his love for the city.
"I love being here, I love being a part of this organization and city. We have a lot of Cavs fans on the road. Before I got here, I didn't realize how many people were actually from Ohio. To hear that everywhere I go is special," Mitchell said in his post-game interview.
Moving forward, the Cavaliers should not be worried about Mitchell's commitment to the team. He looks ready to keep fighting for the city of Cleveland, and he wants to lead them to a championship.
