The Miami Dolphins will wrap their 2025 season on Sunday against the New England Patriots, who need a win and a loss from the Denver Broncos to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff picture.
The bigger story with the Dolphins, though, is what they will do when the offseason officially begins on Sunday night. Will they keep head coach Mike McDaniel or look for new leadership on the sideline? The Dolphins already fired general manager Chris Grier in the middle of the season, so perhaps they would prefer to package the new general manager with a new head coach, as well.
Whomever the new GM will be is still to be determined, but the Dolphins are turning over every stone in order to bring in outside voices to aid in their search. Per Tom Pelissero, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current ESPN NFL analyst Troy Aikman is consulting on the Dolphins' GM search.
"Hall of fame QB and current ESPN broadcaster Troy Aikman is consulting on the Dolphins’ GM search," Pelissero reports. "Aikman, who has mused in the past about becoming a GM himself, is not considered a candidate for the job. But he is doing background work ahead of interviews next week."
Aikman led the Dallas Cowboys to three Super Bowl championships in the early 1990s and made the swift transition into the broadcast booth soon after his playing career wrapped up. He and Joe Buck currently anchor the booth for ESPN's Monday Night Football.
