Dolphins named best fit for projected $71 million ascending NFC quarterback

The Miami Dolphins will be in the quarterback market this offseason, as the franchise is expected to move on from Tua Tagovailoa via cut or trade.

Miami could look towards the draft or even the trade market to find its 2026 starting signal-caller, but FOX Sports' Greg Auman believes the Dolphins are the best fit for Green Bay Packers free agent quarterback Malik Willis.

Here is what Auman had to say about Willis and why he fits in Miami:

"Could he [Willis] be a match for former Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, seeking a reasonably priced answer he can build around in Miami?

Willis being connected to the Dolphins is no surprise. The team just hired Jeff Hafley as head coach and Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager, former Packers employees who spent time in Green Bay with Wilis.

Hafley served as the Packers' defensive coordinator for two seasons, while Sullivan spent 22 years in Green Bay's front office, most notably as the Vice president of player personnel from 2022 to 2025.

Signing Willis would be a logical move by the Dolphins. The 26-year-old could serve as a solid bridge starter for Miami, but Willis also has the potential to be the Dolphins' long-term answer at quarterback.

Since joining the Packers, Willis has been one of the better backup quarterbacks in football. He completed nearly 86% of his passes on 35 attempts in 2025 and went 2-0 in two starts in 2024.

Spotrac projects Willis will land a deal worth $71 million over two seasons, an average annual value of $35.5 million. That would be a steep price point for Miami, who are currently slated to be $16 million under the cap.

However, Hafley and Sullivan's familiarity with Willis could push them to sign the Liberty product and reset at the quarterback position with a dynamic signal-caller with a ton of promise.
