This offseason will be a big one for the Miami Dolphins. With new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan in charge, the Dolphins will be looking to shake things up from the Mike McDaniel and Chris Grier era.
While Tyreek Hill will be a big name to keep an eye on, there isn't a more important player for the Dolphins this offseason than Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins have a big decision to make, and as of now, it's still uncertain what that decision will be.
But, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Dolphins do have a clear preference for dealing with Tagovailoa this offseason. Miami's front office would ideally find a trade partner for the $99 million quarterback.
Dolphins' ideal Tua Tagovailoa plan revealed by insider
"As the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals navigate the future with new head coaches, both teams would like to find trade partners for their starting quarterbacks," Schefter reports. "The Dolphins would like to explore trading Tua Tagovailoa..."
This is a clear plan for the Dolphins that Schefter is reporting on. Miami, with new leadership, is hoping to find a trade partner for Tagovailoa this offseason.
That's easier said than done, as the lefty quarterback is owed $54 million guaranteed this season and would carry $99 million in dead cap space if they cut him.
A trade is the only feasible path forward for Miami without hamstringing the team's financials for years to come.

Finding a trade, even if it means taking on very little in return, would be a net positive for the Dolphins if they can get out of his contract this offseason.
Freeing up all of that money will be impossible, but getting as much back as possible would be the right decision for the Dolphins.
Based on this report from Schefter, the Dolphins are trying to do just that. Tagovailoa is on the trade block, and Sullivan will do whatever it takes to move on from his massive contract this offseason.
The Dolphins' preference with Tagovailoa this offseason is clear: Miami wants to make a trade. Finding a team willing to take on his contract, even if only part of it, will be incredibly challenging.
