Dolphins, Cardinals named landing spots for ascending QB slated for free agency

The Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals will be in the same boat this offseason, as both will be looking for a new starting quarterback.

After what has been a horrid season, the Dolphins have benched Tua Tagovailoa and now it appears his days in Miami are numbered.

In Arizona, the Cardinals saw Kyler Murray's season come to an end early due to a foot injury, but it appeared he was on track to getting benched in favor of Jacoby Brissett before that. The expectation is Murray will be playing elsewhere next season.

With that in mind, FanSided's Justin Carter named the Cardinals and Dolphins as possible landing spots for Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis.

Here's what Carter said about Miami:

Willis could be a lot of fun in a Mike McDaniel offense, assuming McDaniel returns as the Dolphins' head coach. Willis has a big arm and runs well, two things McDaniel could scheme around in a way that would instantly improve the Dolphins' offense.

And here's what Carter said about Willis going to the Cardinals:

No offense meant to Brissett, who has done a great job leading this offense as Murray's replacement, but he's not the future of this team. Willis could be, which is what this deal would be about: adding a guy who theoretically could emerge as your long-term starter

A former third-round pick of the Tennessee Titans, Willis struck out in Nashville before being traded to the Packers.

Green Bay has clearly been successful in developing Willis, who has turned his career around with the Packers after showing a ton of potential in his limited opportunities behind Jordan Love.

We saw Willis play at a fairly high level in Week 16 after Love was forced out of the game early due to a concussion and that only made the buzz surrounding the veteran quarterback louder.

Now, there is no doubt that Willis is going to draw significant interest on the open market from teams in need of a quarterback.

The Dolphins and Cardinals are going to be looking for their franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft, but neither team is in a great position to snag the top prospects at the position.

According to Tankathon, Miami owns the No. 10 overall pick currently, while the Cardinals are sitting in a better spot with the No. 6 pick. There is still time for Arizona and Miami to move up or down, though.

Knowing that, they could look to an option like Willis, who won't cost a ton, which is important because both teams will be paying large dead-cap hits by cutting their current starters loose.

Willis is also young enough (26) to be a long-term solution if he pans out, but signing him should not preclude either team from drafting a signal-caller.

The Liberty product should be a hot commodity this coming offseason and it's logical to think the Dolphins and Cardinals will have interest.
