Does Ruby die in Where Winds Meet? (Spoilers)

Ruby is one of the major characters of Where Winds Meet, and some players have wondered if she meets a grisly fate and dies during the story. After all, this is a Wuxia game, and there’s bound to be some tragedy that the main character has to cope with and overcome. But does Ruby die anywhere in the current story of the game? Depending on how you feel about her, I’ve got good and bad news.

Not only does Ruby die in Where Winds Meet, but it’s relatively early in the main storyline. This could happen a few hours in, if you really push through the story, but if you’re like us, and explore everywhere, Ruby’s life expectancy drastically goes up. Here’s what you need to know about her fate.

Where Winds Meet’s Ruby does die during the main storyline

Unfortunately, Ruby does die during the climax of the first chapter of Where Winds Meet, Heaven Has No Pier. During the ending of Heaven Has No Pier, the home of Aunt Han, your player character, and of course, Ruby, is attacked by a mysterious witch and her soldiers. The once-beautiful village gets set ablaze by fire arrows, and it’s up to your character to drive them out.

While trying to help the citizens of Heaven’s Pier flee the attack, Ruby goes to the nearby mountaintop to point the way out. Sadly, she gets pelted with arrows, and perishes in that moment. During one of the cutscenes, the player will see Ruby’s cloak waving in the breeze, showing the way to safety.

Though she does die, Ruby is integral to the citizens of Heaven’s Pier getting away during the attack on their home in Where Winds Meet. The Qianye witch orders her men to shoot the red cloak, which ultimately ends the life of Ruby. As far as we know during the current course of the story, she is dead and does not come back.

Even though your character does attempt to get to Ruby she’s not in time. After defeating the Qianye witch, the story will continue though, as your character heads to Kaifeng. Ruby may pass on, but your character will carry memories of the small child with her everywhere they go.
