The 2026 Major League Baseball international signing period began Thursday, and the Los Angeles Dodgers have already signed nearly two dozen prospects.
On Friday, they continued their hunt for one of the future stars of the organization, agreeing to a $250,000 signing bonus with Mexican catcher Robert Saucedo Jr.
"Strong arm and good athleticism behind the plate," Francys Romero wrote about Saucedo on X yesterday. He is not ranked on MLB Pipeline's top 50 international prospects list of 2026.
Saucedo's father was a star in Mexico
The catcher's father, Robert Saucedo, was a first baseman who occasionally filled in behind the plate during a 21-year playing career in the minors and Mexico. He spent the 1995 and 1996 seasons in the lower-level minor leagues with the then-California Angels.
The elder Saucedo spent the remainder of his playing career, from 1997-2015, in Mexico, competing in both the summer and winter leagues. He hit 341 home runs in 1,775 career games South of the border.
Los Angeles will likely start the younger Saucedo in the Dominican Summer League in 2026. Despite being a very talented prospect, the 17-year-old remains several years away from an MLB promotion.
