Dodgers 'nightmare' trade puts MLB on notice, potentially sets up future Tarik Skubal move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the highest payroll in baseball, and there is no doubt they have the resources to pursue almost any player they want at any point in time.

If the Dodgers choose to, they could add even more high-end pitching depth to their rotation. One name that has recently surfaced in trade discussions is Freddy Peralta of the New York Mets.

“According to industry sources the Cubs are one of the teams the Mets have talked to about acquiring RHP Freddy Peralta.June 1st is a target time for the Mets to either get back into the race or move the soon to be Free agent .Peralta and Craig Counsell share a mutual bond,” Bruce Levine posted.

The Dodgers have consistently been one of the top teams in baseball, and if they continue adding star talent, it would be bad news for the rest of the league. Acquiring Peralta would be viewed as another major power move by Los Angeles.

“This is the nightmare scenario. with Rōki Sasaki and Emmet Sheehan both struggling immensely — there's incentive for the Dodgers to be aggressive. And at $8 million, Peralta hardly breaks the bank for baseball's richest team. The Dodgers would be in prime position to re-sign Peralta, and maybe to target Tarik Skubal while they're at it. This is the dystopian hellscape the other 29 MLB teams have created with their financial reservations,” FanSided’s Christopher Kline wrote.

If the Dodgers somehow managed to land both Peralta and Tarik Skubal, their rotation would become even more dangerous when combined with names like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. If Los Angeles decides to go all-in, few teams would realistically be able to compete with that level of pitching depth.

Moves are already expected to be made to the Dodgers’ rotation at some point soon, but adding arms like Peralta and Skubal would completely shift the balance of power across MLB for years to come.
