The Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Los Angeles Angels, 11-9, on Saturday night. On one hand, Clayton Kershaw returned to the mound in a welcome sight for Dodgers fans.
Unfortunately, he went just four innings and gave up five runs on five hits in his first action since August 30. Kershaw's return was expected to be a breath of fresh air to an injury-riddled pitching staff.
Well, things took another turn in the pitching department with reliever Kirby Yates leaving the game with an injury. After the loss, Dave Roberts spoke about Yates and delivered another brutal update.
"The assessment early is a grade 1 hamstring. I don't see how it's not an IL just given a hamstring. We'll see how he comes in tomorrow, but I could see it as an IL. No imaging yet. I think that's tomorrow," Roberts said, via Doug McKain.
Yates went just 0.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits before exiting, and he wound up being the pitcher of record for LA. Yates had pitched in 21 games for the Dodgers with a 2.95 ERA after signing via free agency.
Now, the Dodgers' injury list grew, and here are the pitchers currently on the IL for LA:
- Kirby Yates
- Blake Snell
- Roki Sasaki
- Evan Phillips
- Michael Kopech
- Blake Treinen
- Tyler Glasnow
- Edgardo Hernandez
- Kyle Hurt
- Brusdar Graterol
- River Ryan
- Michael Grove
- Gavin Stone
- Emmet Sheehan
So, it's yet another crushing blow for the Dodgers, although they somehow are still in first place in the National League West.
