Dodgers Blake Snell admits frustrating cause for injury setback image

The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the midst of a four-game losing streak after falling to the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.

The team’s struggle to field healthy pitchers seems to be taking its toll on the wins column, as the Dodgers lost even after putting up nine runs. Roki Sasaki and Tyler Glasnow recently joined starters like River Ryan and Emmet Sheehan on the injured list, with Kirby Yates joining the long list of injured relievers as well.

The team attempted to fortify against this possibility with several offseason additions, but one of their highest-profile newcomers, Blake Snell, was only able to make two starts before going down with a shoulder injury.

As he works his way back to the rotation, Snell recently revealed the frustrating cause for his prolonged absence, telling AM 570’s David Vassegh that he pushed himself through some initial discomfort before the season and likely made his injury worse.

“I probably should have stopped throwing before opening day but I wanted to pitch so bad that we made it worse than it was probably going to be,” Snell said.

Snell has seen some setbacks as he works through his rehabilitation, including an illness. He recently began a throwing program, but has no timetable for return and the team moved him to the 60-day injured list this week, suggesting he is still some time away from a return.

Snell voiced some frustration with his absence, noting that he regrets pushing through that initial discomfort.

“But you learn from it, and it's tough,” Snell added. “We want to compete, we want to play. I'm new to being a Dodger, and I just want to show everyone how great I am and what I can be, and I got a little too far ahead of myself.”

As the Dodgers look to end their losing streak and cobble together some wins, they’ll be hoping to see a healthy and effective Snell come playoff time.
