DK Metcalf punches Lions fan on sideline during game

Pittsburgh Steelers receiver DK Metcalf was seen on camera punching a Detroit Lions fan.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of Sunday's game between the Steelers and Lions in Detroit. Metcalf was on the sidelines, talking with a fan. He then threw a punch at the fan before walking away.

It's hard to know what triggered Metcalf's punch. In Week 1, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson shoved a Buffalo Bills fan following a touchdown. That, though, was in response to the fan touching Jackson and his teammates. There did not appear to be any physical provocation from the fan to warrant a physical response in Metcalf's case. It's likely that something was said, but unless someone near the incident could hear the verbal exchange, it will just be a matter of Metcalf's word against the fans.

The Steelers will be at the Cleveland Browns in Week 17 and will then finish the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18. Entering Sunday's game, the Steelers were 8-6, one game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens, who host the New England Patriots in Week 16's Sunday Night Football matchup.

Some sort of action from the league is inevitable. It's more likely than not that Metcalf will get fined and suspended.
