After nearly a decade in the NBA, Dillon Brooks has finally earned the Western Conference Player of the Week award. It was a much-deserved award for his performance over the past week.
He averaged 28.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists to lead the Phoenix Suns to a 3-1 week. That included wins against the Eastern Conference's best team, the Detroit Pistons. It was such an impressive run that deserved plenty of plaudits.
Brooks feels his teammates helped him win the award
For most of his career, Brooks has been known as an energy guy or at most a three-and-D player. That is not the case anymore because Brooks has legitimately turned into a solid second option in Phoenix.
With Devin Booker and Jalen Green dealing with injuries, that meant Brooks had to take charge as the #1 guy. He has not dropped off because he is playing All-Star-level hoops without his star teammates.

Despite his stellar individual run, Brooks does not want to take all the credit. Of course, he is the one attached to the award, but he wants his teammates to get some credit for what they have done to help him.
"I played well. My teammates were getting me the basketball. Feel like I was pretty on the whole week. Feels amazing. Just want to replicate it again," Brooks said at shootaround before the Suns' game in Portland about his award.
This is a massive achievement for Brooks, but he does not really look at individual awards that much. He is thankful for what he achieved, and that should continue to be his approach as he develops into a better individual player.
