The New York Jets shocked the world today when they traded former All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts.
In return, New York got a haul of draft capital, including two first-round picks and wide receiver Adonai Mitchell.
But the trade seemed to come out of thin air, with no inkling or rumblings of a Gardner trade leading up to the deadline. Did Sauce himself know something was in the works?
Sauce Gardner had no idea Colts trade was coming
According to ESPN Jets insider Rich Cimini, Gardner had no idea he was going to be traded at the NFL deadline.
"Sauce Gardner was stunned by the trade, per his brother and agent Allante Gardner, who told me he learned of the deal around 12:15 in a call from the #Jets," wrote Cimini on X.
"They had no inkling before that, he said. Sauce has no negative feelings toward the Jets; he understands it's a business, Allante said. Sauce did get a call from Aaron Glenn."
A further statement from Allante Gardner, Sauce's brother and agent, was provided to Cimini.
"I called Ahmad. He's in great spirits. I told him this is a business decision and he understands that. The Jets made a business decision. They couldn't turn it down and Ahmad deserves to be on a winning football team."
Clearly, there's no hard feelings from either side of the trade, and both the Jets and Gardner got what they wanted.
Sauce goes from a 1-7 team to a 7-2 team, with a real shot of his postseason action as an NFL player.
