Lapillus leader Shana's recent update signaled the silent disbandment of the K-pop group. Usually, when a K-pop group's activities end or if they no longer want to continue working together, the company could officially announce their disbandment.

However, there is also something called silent disbandment. It's when a group's activities have come to an end, but with no official word from the company. It appears that silent disbandment is what has happened to Lapillus, per Koreaboo, especially with the latest update that Shana shared on social media.

On October 26, the K-pop group's leader announced on Instagram via a photo of handwritten letters that she has left the company and that it has been months since she cut ties with them.

"I am no longer under contract with the agency I was previously affiliated with. All the memories, experiences, and growth I gained during that time are invaluable treasures that I will never forget."

She also said that she wanted to share the update for some time, but has always hesitated about whether it was the right thing to do. However, not giving an update to the fans who have supported her journey would be unfair, so she decided to open up. While she didn't specify her plans for the future, the Lapillus leader said that she has finally found a path. She wrote, translated by the outlet:

"After my contract ended, I challenged myself with many things. Through these experiences, I finally found the path I want to move forward on."

Shana also remembered her time with the other Lapillus members, Chanty, Yule, Bessie, Seowon, and Haeun fondly.

Shana's recent update about leaving MLD Entertainment, which manages the group, isn't the only reason why fans online think that the K-pop girl group has disbanded. Back in June 2024, per Koreaboo, MLD Entertainment's trademark of the name 'LAPILLUS' or the lack thereof has made headlines and sparked questions about the band's future.

MLD trademarked the group's name on June 18, 2022, via Dawool Parent and Law Firm, but per the outlet in June 2024, the trademark has been abandoned. It suggests that the company has ceased to claim and has stopped paying for the trademark. The "abandoned" trademark also signals that they have decided not to resume using the name.

With MLD Entertainment abandoning the trademark, the group could pay for it by themselves, so they could use the name. Or, if they decide to continue with the group outside of MLD, they could go under a different name. However, there is no official update from the group about their future.

That said, K-pop star Chanty shared the group's status during an interview with Boy Abunda in April 2025, per GMA Network. She denied that the group had already disbanded, adding that they are "just on a break right now."
