Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old American man who is awaiting trial for the alleged murder of the UnitedHealthCare CEO, is reportedly keeping himself entertained behind bars with music. On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the X account, The Luigi Times, shared an image of a fan letter penned by Luigi from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

The X account wrote:

“New/old letter! LM lists ‘Cardigan’, by Taylor Swift, as one of the things he’s grateful for.”

As per the image of the letter, Luigi Mangione penned 27 things that he is “grateful for”, including the artists and songs that he has been listening to lately at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Meanwhile, the fan letter, which is circulating online, has been verified by TMZ.

As per Luigi Mangione, he decided to give pop music a shot after a fake list of his “favorite artists” went viral. While Mangione explained in the letter that he recently downloaded Taylor Swift and Charli XCX’s music to his prison tablet, he claimed that he was scolded for listening to them by one of his inmates.

“Last week, I downloaded a bunch of Taylor Swift and Charli XCX onto my tablet. I’ve never really listened to either of them, but some phony list of my favorite music circulated on social media. Rather than being a buzzkill and set the record straight, I figured I’d see what all the hype was about,” he explained.

The alleged murderer of Brian Thompson detailed in his letter that he was listening to Cardigan by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift while walking laps until his fellow inmate, “King,” caught wind of it and recommended him to listen to Lil Durk’s music.

“So I’m walking laps on the top tier of my unit listening to ‘Cardigan’ by Taylor Swift when one of the other inmates, ‘King,’ calls me over to see what I’m listening to. He scolds me for a while, then replaces all my music. Now I listen to ‘Lil Durk’,” Luigi Mangione wrote.

Meanwhile, Luigi Mangione in the 27th point of his letter mentioned the 2013 released song, Dis Ain't What U Want by Lil Durk's as one of his favorite tracks.

On October 28, 2025, Luigi Mangione’s attorney Arthur Aidala boasted to People Magazine about his behaviour and admiration by other inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

“He actually has been extremely nice to brand new people who go in there… When people get there and they don’t know what the heck is going on, he is kind of the one who welcomes them and and does his best to allay their fears, and you know, kind of shows them the ropes of what life in the Metropolitan Detention Center is like,” Arthur Aidala explained.

Claiming that Mangione is known as “a model prisoner” and is “very, very well liked” by his fellow inmates and also by the staff at the MDC, the lawyer said:

“He gets very high marks from people in and around the jail system… My understanding is that he is a rule follower, unlike a lot of folks in there… He hasn’t been written up for any violations of any sort.”

For the unversed, Luigi Mangione is being housed in the general population at the MDC and not receiving any special treatment. He has reportedly spent 10 months behind bars and awaits trial for allegedly murdering Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, authorities reportedly arrested the 27-year-old five days after the murder of the UnitedHealthCare CEO. He was arraigned on state charges on December 23, including second-degree murder.
