Did David Njoku get traded? Explaining Browns' NFL deadline decision

2 hours ago 2

The Cleveland Browns were heading into the 2025 NFL trade deadline with a clear reason to sell off some of their players. While the New York Jets committed to a fire sale, the Browns were never going to make such aggressive moves.

While Myles Garrett wasn't going anywhere, the Browns did see a few other key players mentioned in trade rumors. Joe Tryon-Shoyinka was one such player, and he was dealt to the Chicago Bears.

But another top trade candidate for the Browns was tight end David Njoku. As the deadline passed, with some buzz surrounding Njoku, did Cleveland ship off the veteran tight end at the 2025 deadline?

Did the Browns trade David Njoku?

While there were some interesting deals around the NFL on Tuesday, the Browns weren't nearly as involved. David Njoku, who has been in trade rumors for some time, didn't get traded.

Njoku is staying in Cleveland for the rest of the 2025 season, as he pairs a strong duo with rookie Harold Fannin Jr. in the tight end room.

They'll both help the Browns' offense down the second half stretch of the NFL season. With Cedric Tillman's return from injured reserve, along with Jerry Jeudy and Quinshon Judkins on offense, the Browns' skill players are an interesting group.

Jerome Ford was also a name brought up in trade rumors, but just like Njoku, he's staying in Cleveland. The Browns aren't making any major changes at the deadline.

Njoku is 29 years old and in his ninth season with the Browns. He's played in all but one game this season, and has 27 receptions for 260 yards and two touchdowns on the year.

Cleveland is keeping their offense together for the second half of the year, giving Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders the best weapons possible for a chance to earn the starting job going forward.
