Coco Gauff's recent social media activity has left fans guessing whether it was an indirect shot towards one of her peers, Laura Siegemund. The young American is fairly active in the online space, just like most people of her age. She recently reposted a viral meme from TikTok, which depicted a person making fun of their opponent for taking too long to serve.

When Gauff shared the meme on her profile, fans discussed the same on X (formerly Twitter) and quickly drew the connection between her and Siegemund. The latter is known for her questionable tactics and sportsmanship. When they crossed paths in the first round of the US Open 2023, it wasn't a completely pleasant affair.

Siegemund employed certain underhanded tactics, like taking too long to serve, and then making Gauff wait while it was her turn to serve. The American initially let these schemes slide but eventually it rubbed her the wrong way.

Gauff complained to the chair umpire about the same, urging for her older rival to be given time violations for her actions. Siegemund was eventually issued a couple of violations for her repeated delays, which led to a point penalty. The German's actions also turned the crowd against her, who jeered her for the remainder of the match.

Gauff rallied from a set down to win the contest. When she was interviewed following her win, she took a shot at Siegemund. The presenter asked her to describe the match, without missing a beat, Gauff responded with "slow".

Siegemund, on the other hand, was emotional during her post-match conference. She stated that the crowd made her feel like she was a cheater with their constant boos. Gauff didn't let the dramatics impact her for the rest of the tournament, and went on to win her maiden Major title.

Coco Gauff's campaign at the US Open 2023 got underway with a drama-filled win over Laura Siegemund. She brushed past Mirra Andreeva in straight sets after that but needed three sets to dispatch Elise Mertens and Caroline Wozniacki in the third and fourth rounds respectively.

Gauff crushed Jelena Ostapenko in the quarterfinals, dropping only two games to progress further. A competitive two-set win over Karolina Muchova put her in the final, where she was up against Aryna Sabalenka.

The American overturned a one-set deficit to beat Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 and claimed her maiden Major title. Two years later, she once again staged a comeback to upset Sabalenka in the French Open final for her second Major title.
