Did Chiefs hint at starting QB vs. Broncos on Christmas Day?

1 hour ago 2

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day in the last game of the season at Arrowhead Stadium.

But it won't be Patrick Mahomes starting. Nor will it be Gardner Minshew.

Then who?

Chris Oladokun stepped in for Minshew in the 26-9 loss to the Tennessee Titans, and the Chiefs signed Shane Buechele from the practice squad to the active roster.

But as for Oladokun, he says he's ready for the chance in Week 17.

“I'm ready for the opportunity,” Oladokun said. “It's not only a great opportunity for me but a great opportunity for our team, go out there and battle. That's all I can ask of these guys. Obviously, we have a lot of young guys playing, but it's great experience not only for me, but for all of our young guys playing. It's going to be real valuable for us."

Oladokun ready for "special" Week 17

Given that it is a short week, the Chiefs won't have long to make up their mind over who is starting.

Oladokun got his first snaps of the season in Tennessee, and it is clear that he's ready to roll if given the green light.

"It's Christmas Day, the possibility of me making a first [start] on Christmas Day is pretty special," he added. "I have family in town, so I'm looking forward to it.”

Of course, Buechele is a veteran, so he might also get a look in as well for the Chiefs.

Either way, it is going to be a vastly different offense in the final two games of the season for Kansas City as they look to end a horror year on a positive note.
