If the Arizona Diamondbacks ever decide to trade Ketel Marte, the front office had better be assured they are receiving boatloads of talent in return.
Marte is widely considered the best second baseman in the Majors and the leader of Arizona's offense. There were several clubs rumored to have interest in making a trade for the three-time All-Star and 2023 NLCS MVP during the Winter Meetings.
However, with just two days until Opening Day, it appears Marte will remain with the D-Backs, at least for the first half of the season.
But Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller believes the D-Backs could re-engage with an AL East club after it was rumored they showed interest in Marte earlier this offseason.
D-Backs-Red Sox trade idea sends Marte to Boston, OF Jarren Duran to Arizona
"Goodness also knows Arizona could use some help in the outfield in the form of 2024 All-Star Jarren Duran, as well as another option for its starting rotation—even if that option is Kutter Crawford, who missed all of 2025 due to both a knee and wrist injury and didn't pitch in a game in spring training," Miller wrote on Tuesday, adding in Crawford in the deal for Duran.
Duran is an extremely athletic outfielder who hit 16 home runs and stole 24 bases last season. But would he alone make the D-Backs a contender in the NL? Duran comes at a cheaper price tag than Marte, but this might be a deal Arizona thinks twice about making.
"What's up for debate is whether the trade would even help Arizona in 2026, or if it just shifts the big question mark in this lineup from LF to 2B while jettisoning a fan favorite," Miller added. "The Diamondbacks would perhaps also insist upon getting Kristian Campbell in the deal, which is perhaps why it never got very close to the finish line a few months ago."
