Diamondbacks fans won't like projected 'untouchable' players in trade talks

The Arizona Diamondbacks had a tough start to the season, but have been trending in the right direction as of late. Now back above .500 on the year, the Diamondbacks can look forward to the trade deadline as prospective buyers instead of sellers.

But, with over two months until the August 3rd deadline, there is a chance that the D-Backs falter and wind up as sellers come the deadline.

If that happens, there will be a very interesting question for Arizona about who their "untouchable" players are this year. Corbin Carroll isn't even up for debate, but Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter did identify the D-Backs' "untouchable" trade deadline players.

"Arizona Diamondbacks: None," Reuter writes. "With Corbin Carroll locked up through 2031, the Diamondbacks do not have any up-and-comers that fit the untouchable narrative."

This projection for the Diamondbacks, with there being no "untouchable" players on the roster outside of Carroll, is a projection that fans shouldn't be big fans of.

Why D-Backs' lack of 'untouchable' players is far from ideal

Hopefully, the Diamondbacks don't even need to entertain any offers for their players and instead can use their farm system to acquire talent this season.

But, if they are looking to trade away some players, Reuter doesn't believe there is a player who should be deemed untouchable on the MLB roster.

Jordan Lawler, Ryan Wadlschmidt, and Jose Fernandez are fun young players, but Reuter doesn't believe they are an "immovable trade chip" this season.

The same goes for Gabriel Moreno, even though finding a good starting catcher like the 26-year-old veteran is hard to find.

Ketel Marte not being an "untouchable" trade chip isn't a surprise considering the rumors over the offseason, but it's still noteworthy to leave the door open to a Marte trade in the middle of the year.

Ildermaro Vargas, Nolan Arenado, Merrill Kelly, Zac Gallen, Lourdes Gurriel, Mike Soroka, Ryne Nelson, and even Eduardo Rodriguez are all not untouchable players in trade talks this year, either.

If the D-Backs wind up as sellers, nearly every single player would be available for the right price in trade talks. This is not what fans would like to see at all, as the team could get gutted at this year's deadline if things go south.
