Diamondbacks cut ties with ex-Rays, Twins 4.11 ERA veteran pitcher

The Arizona Diamondbacks are moving on from a nine-year Major League veteran. 

According to Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors, the D-Backs have placed right-hander Zack Littell on release waivers. 

Arizona designated Littell, 30, for assignment on Sunday. 

In just 12 innings with the NL West club, Littell allowed 10 earned runs on 21 hits, including five home runs. 

"Littell gave up five home runs in those final two outings. That’s the always-present concern, as he surrendered 36 long balls last season and has given up 30 more this year," Franco wrote. 

Littell began the season with the Washington Nationals but was cut loose after 23 appearances with the NL East club, including 14 starts.

With the Nationals, he posted a 4.97 ERA and struck out just 14.6% of the batters he faced. 

Arizona signed Littell to a Major League contract, but it's possible he will only receive minor league offers this time. 

From 2023-25, Littell was a key member of the Tampa Bay Rays rotation and posted a career-high 3.3 bWAR in 2025.
