DeSean Jackson hints at issue dividing A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts: ‘Something else going on’

A.J. Brown certainly isn’t hiding his Eagles frustration this season, and one confidant believes the crux of that discord doesn’t just stem from his role — or lack thereof —in the weekly game plan.

When discussing the disgruntled Eagles wideout during a recent installment of his “House of Action” podcast, former NFL receiver DeSean Jackson suggested the splintered relationship between Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts isn’t exclusive to the gridiron.

“As you can tell, it’s something else going on,” said Jackson, who retired with the Eagles in 2023 after a 15-year career that included two runs in Philadelphia. “And I got a great relationship with him. I respect him. I can’t say it. But I know it’s something else going on. It’s not all about football, not all about X’s and O’s. I’ve had situationships with quarterbacks I didn’t necessarily like. And I’m going to just be honest, and when it ain’t there, it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s all I’mma say.”

Brown, 28, has been outspoken about his displeasure this season, whether calling out the offense in the media or likening the current state of affairs to a “s–tshow” on a live stream.

Even with the team flying high at 8-2 as they look to defend their Super Bowl title, Hurts has allegedly been a source of contention within the building, with recent reports calling attention to his style of play executed in games versus what’s practiced.

Hurts, 27, said Wednesday he is “not surprised by anything,” adding, “this is kind of the nature of the position.”

“I put my energy and my focus on trying to go out there and do my best and trying to learn, trying to build, trying to take in the things that I can to try and improve,” he said, according to ESPN.

The spark that once ignited the Eagles’ offense has essentially been reduced to a flicker this season, with the unit currently ranked 25th in total yards per game (300.1) and 28th in passing (184.9), per ESPN.

Hurts, who is completing 66.9 percent of his passes this year, said figuring out a rhythm begins with him.

“I take great pride in what we do on offense. I take great pride in how we go out there and play as a team and what our flow is. I think we’ve got work to do, and that obviously starts with me. That’s always my approach. That’s always me looking internally first in everything that we do and then in due time rising above,” he said.
