It seems the Fife Flyers are facing immediate financial repercussions after confirming the signing of former NHL star Milan Lucic for the remainder of the 2025-26 EIHL season.
Less than 24 hours after the announcement, the team’s “gold sponsor” Skyhook Helicopters announced via social media that it would have “no further association” with the club.
In an official statement, Skyhook Helicopters said:
"Skyhook Helicopters has been proud to support sport within our local community and to have been a sponsor of the Fife Flyers Ice Hockey Club for the past two seasons. We recognise that the club represents more than what is seen on the ice and includes many dedicated staff, volunteers, and community members who give their time and effort to support the sport and its fans. We are aware of recent media coverage involving the club.” “As a sponsor, Skyhook Helicopters has not been involved in the day-to-day management or operational decisions of the organisation. After careful consideration, Skyhook Helicopters has decided that, moving forward, we will have no further association with the club. This decision has not been taken lightly and reflects our commitment to professionalism, integrity, and our wider responsibilities as a business."The announcement comes amid widespread backlash over Lucic’s signing largely due to his off-ice history including a November 2023 arrest in Boston stemming from a domestic incident.
He was charged with assault and battery on a family member but the charges were later dropped in February 2024 after prosecutors were unable to proceed after Brittany invoked marital privilege.
Following the incident, Lucic entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and was placed on an indefinite leave of absence.
Milan Lucic’s wife Brittany pens emotional message two years after alleged domestic violence incident
Last month marked exactly two years since the alleged domestic incident that led to Milan Lucic’s arrest in Boston. On a rare social media post, his wife Brittany Lucic reflected on the milestone and the family’s journey since November 2023.
Brittany shared a new photo of the couple with a heartfelt caption:
“✨I’ve stared down the devil in more forms than most people ever will and not once was it you. ✨I’m proud of the grit, the fight, and the fire you carry. You dig deeper than anyone I know, bettering yourself for you and for OUR family.” “We’re blessed, and I stand by you with zero doubt. Proud of YOU and US. This milestone is because YOU chose to do the HARD work! ☺️✨🙏🏼”Lucic and Brittany, married in 2012, share three children together. Since the incident, Lucic had largely remained out of the public eye focusing on personal recovery and family life.
Earlier this year, Milan Lucic made his AHL debut with the Springfield Thunderbirds on a professional tryout contract.
