Day’Ron Sharpe exits Nets’ rivalry loss with hamstring tightness in injury worry

1 hour ago 2

Nets center Day’Ron Sharpe left Sunday’s game with left hamstring tightness.

The Nets did not offer any timeline or clarity on the severity of the injury.

“No, there’s not been any testing. It’s just tightness. So we’ll do our evaluation and whatever we have to do,” head coach Jordi Fernández said. “So, we’ll see. But he played extremely hard.”

Sharpe had 10 points and six rebounds in 12:11 against the Knicks.

He played the final three-plus minutes of the third quarter and didn’t return for the fourth.

“It’s hard for me to say [when it happened],” Fernández said. “I know that he was fighting and played really hard. So hopefully, it’s nothing. We’ll see what happens.”

Egor Dëmin had 10 points and four rebounds but three turnovers.

“He did a good job. Still, taking care of the ball is important, and reading where the paint is crowded, where the ball has to be. That’s going to get better. Still defensively, we’re going to need more and more, not just from him but from everybody else,” Fernández said. “But overall, good 25 minutes of experience, growing of understanding what it is to play against a team like this.”

Drake Powell had 15 points, went 3-of-3 from deep and even celebrated in front of Spike Lee, returning some trash talk to the Knicks superfan.

“Yeah, yeah, he was [talking],” Powell said. “But you know me, I’ll never be the first one to talk to somebody. But, like, if you talk to me, he’s like, you just, you know, in the flow of the game, like, it is what it is.”

Rookie first-round picks Ben Saraf, Danny Wolf and Nolan Traore all played in Long Island’s loss in the G-League.

Wolf had a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds, joining Sharpe and Noah Clowney as the only Nets with consecutive double-doubles to start their G-League careers.

Saraf had 15 points in 25 minutes off the bench, while Traore scored 15.

“We’re very well connected with how we want to do things. I want to challenge these guys and develop these guys. There’s not just one avenue. There’s different ways that we can do it,” Fernández said. “The most important thing is that they take advantage of those minutes, and from there, we’ll decide [where] all of them [play].”
