The Indianapolis Colts lost quarterback Daniel Jones for the season due to a torn Achilles.
It was a devastating blow for Jones and the Colts, as the former was reviving his career this season and the latter was in the hunt for the playoffs.
On Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Jones had surgery on Tuesday and he is expected to be out for six to eight months.
"Daniel Jones underwent surgery Tuesday in New York that is expected to sideline him for six to eight months, giving the Indianapolis Colts quarterback the ability to be fully cleared for the start of next summer's training camp, per sources," Schefter said.
The obvious good news there is that Jones could be ready by the start of the 2025 season.
The shorter end of that timeline would have him back on the practice field by late June, while the longer end would be late August. Training camps start in July and Week 1 is the first week of September.
In the meantime, the Colts are riding with 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers, who comes out of retirement after five years to try and save Indy's season.
The Colts are sitting in third place in the AFC South and in the No. 8 spot in the conference playoff picture entering Sunday, but they are right there for both the division crown and a wild-card spot.
As far as Jones is concerned, he'll be a free agent in 2026.
It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that the Colts would extend him, and while it's likely he'll still remain in Indy beyond this season, the Colts might be more keen on giving him the franchise tag now to see how he bounces back following the significant injury.
