Every sports fan loves having one of their hot takes be proved right, especially Dan Orlovsky.
After weeks of being criticized for his take stating that Ty Simpson would be drafted high in the first round, his take was finally proven true after he was selected by the Los Angeles Rams at No. 13. For the weeks leading up to the draft, he shared his beliefs across the ESPN soundwaves, even stating his belief that Simpson was a better fit for the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 1.
While appearing on Pat McAfee’s alternative draft broadcast, he took the time to soak in the triumph of a correct prediction. Orlovsky went around the horn, taking high fives and a handshake from the analysis crew.
Here's a look at Orlovsky's golden moment, and his compilation of Simpson takes leading up to Thursday night.

Dan Orlovsky takes victory lap for Ty Simpson prediction
In the weeks leading up to the 2026 NFL Draft, Orlovsky was vocal about his beliefs about how good the former Alabama QB was. He thoroughly believed that Simpson certainly belonged as a first-round QB and that he would be taken higher than people originally believed. While his take was criticized on social media, it proved to be right. Here is Orlovsky after his take was proven right on the Pat McAfee draft broadcast.

— ESPN (@espn) April 24, 2026Orlovsky even went as far as stating that he believed Simpson would have been a better fit going No. 1 to the Raiders over Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza. While the take seems egregious just on its own, Orlovsky defended it by stating that Klint Kubiak's offensive scheme largely involved the quarterback playing under center. In his FBS career, Mendoza only had five pass attempts from under center.
"Ty Simpson, schematically, is a better fit or marriage for what the Las Vegas Raiders would do under Klint Kubiak than Fernando Mendoza."

In March, Orlovsky revealed on The Pat McAfee Show that he had reached out to more than 10 NFL executives about Simpson. According to Orlovsky, only two disagreed with his take that the Alabama QB was the best in the draft. Here is the ESPN personality discussing the text messages.
