The Dallas Stars, who have made it to three straight Conference finals lately, have filed a countersuit against the Dallas Mavericks, the professional basketball team. This move came after the Mavericks sued the Stars over a contract dispute. Both teams share the American Airlines Center, and the lawsuits focus on its future.
The Mavericks, who are worth $5.1 billion according to Forbes, claim the Stars broke a 1998 agreement by moving their headquarters to Frisco. The Stars have been based there since 2003. The Mavericks also accuse the Stars of blocking arena maintenance and upgrades.
"To put it plainly, the Stars are holding the American Airlines Center hostage Much-needed maintenarse and improvements to the Arena are being delayed while the Stars block investment in the future and demand cash distributions from a partnership in which they no longer have an ownership stake." Mavericks' lawsuit reads. The Stars say the Mavericks are trying to take control of the arena, and they want the court to restore normal operations at the venue.
Stars’ counsel Joshua M. Sandler said their countersuit aims to,
“restore normal operations at the [American Airlines Center] and prevent the Mavericks’ attempted hostile takeover,”The Dallas Stars say only the City of Dallas can decide if a contract breach occurred. Both franchises’ relationship has worsened over the past year. Their current lease at American Airlines Center ends in 2031.
The dispute is primarily focused on a $300 million arena renovation deal from last year. The Mavericks say the Stars backed out of the plan. The Stars deny this and say they agreed to a different deal to stay at the arena until 2035. Meanwhile, the Mavericks have also withheld arena profits from the Stars, which is going into escrow.

"I’m just so happy with how everything’s come together, and now it’s about just trying to add that championship to being in Dallas," Seguin said, while speaking about closing in on 1000 games. "There’s been a lot of changes over the years and a lot of good people in my life that have helped me get to this point."Now 33, Seguin said he feels healthy and wants to finish his career strong with the Dallas Stars.
