Dak Prescott stood at a charity event last week and addressed what Dallas has been waiting to hear. The Cowboys rebuilt their defense this offseason.
Prescott spoke at the Reliant Home Run Derby and made his stance clear. He likes what the front office did on that side of the ball.
The Cowboys traded for edge rusher Rashan Gary and added safeties Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke plus cornerback Cobie Durant in free agency.
Dallas drafted safety Caleb Downs in the first round. New defensive coordinator Christian Parker will install a 3-4 scheme with these new pieces.
Prescott voiced genuine enthusiasm about the additions. "Super excited about the first couple of weeks, having some of the vets coming in, Rashan Gary," Prescott said via The Athletic.

Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark anchor the interior line. Both arrived via trade in 2025. Prescott singled them out as a reason for optimism.
Prescott also acknowledged the transition ahead. "We've had a lot of changes on the defense, so allow those guys to create their identity," Prescott said.
Dallas went 7-10 last season and allowed the most passing touchdowns in the league. The overhaul addresses that failure at every level of the field.
Prescott posted 4,552 passing yards and 30 touchdowns in 2025. An improved defense gives him more possessions and shorter fields this season.

The quarterback closed with a direct assessment. "Things are looking great," Prescott said. Dallas has not had a top defense in recent years.
Gary brings pass rush opposite Donovan Ezeiruaku. Williams and Clark give Dallas a formidable interior. Downs should start at safety as a rookie.
Parker replaces the old scheme with a system built for this personnel. Prescott clearly believes the pieces fit. The season tests that soon enough.
