The Clemson Tigers football program continues to change things up just weeks after losing in the College Football Playoff first round to the Texas Longhorns.
On Tuesday, Clemson officially introduced Tom Allen as the new defensive coordinator after he left Penn State for the same role with Dabo Swinney's program.
In what some have called a lateral move going from the Big Ten's Penn State to the ACC's Clemson, the former Indiana head coach is getting paid almost $2 million a year with his new contract at Clemson.
On Tuesday, Swinney expressed his excitement about bringing Allen on to the staff, per Barrett Sallee.
“We’ve got a great football coach — and a great leader of men — coming to Clemson,” coach Dabo Swinney said. “He brings a ton of experience and was highly recommended by some of the best people in this business. He is obviously coming off of a great year as the defensive coordinator at Penn State, and we’re excited to welcome him as our defensive coordinator here at Clemson.”
Clemson fired defensive coordinator Wes Goodwin after the season, having spent three years in the position. Bringing in Allen is quite the move for Swinney, who will look once again to compete for an ACC title and return to the College Football Playoff. It will be interesting to see if the move pans out, but Swinney is more than thrilled to bring him on board.
