The stakes are enormously high as Puerto Rico and Cuba meet in the World Baseball Classic.

Both teams are off to a 2-0 start with similar run differentials, so the chances of the winner of Monday's matchup ultimately winning Pool A are high. The winner will be guaranteed at least a trip to the quarterfinals.

Unfortunately, both sides had trouble getting the game started on time due to heavy rain near San Juan, putting a pause on the momentum.

Here's what you need to know about the weather forecast for Puerto Rico vs. Cuba and when the delay could end.

Puerto Rico vs. Cuba weather updates

Puerto Rico and Cuba started in a delay on Monday night, with heavy rain pushing back their 7 p.m. ET start time. Here's a look at how the rain moved into San Juan on Monday evening:

Fortunately, the rain isn't expected to last long. The game has a new scheduled start time of 8:20 p.m. ET, with the rain already clearing.

There is a 50 percent chance of showers in the 8 p.m. ET hour, but the chance of rain dips under 20 percent from 9 p.m. through the end of the night. If the rain tapers off in the 8 p.m. hour as expected, Cuba and Puerto Rico should have no problem getting the game in Monday without any more delays.

Where is Puerto Rico vs. Cuba being played?

All games in Pool A are being played at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The stadium, which has hosted World Baseball Classic games in the past, can hold more than 19,000 fans and up to 35,000 for concerts.

Puerto Rico has enjoyed the home-field advantage to this point, starting out the World Baseball Classic with a pair of wins, but their second victory came narrowly against Panama. Puerto Rico's final two games are expected to be a bit tougher, with Cuba and Canada set to challenge the team for the Pool A crown.

If Puerto Rico advances, it will have to head to Houston to play in the quarterfinals regardless of whether or not it wins Pool A.
