The Dallas Cowboys might have a new backup QB behind Dak Prescott.
That raises obvious questions about the previous quarterback in the No. 2 spot on the depth chart, Joe Milton.
Maybe those will get answered in the days ahead.
For now, all we know is based on this report from ESPN's Adam Schefter: The Cowboys have signed Sam Howell, formerly of the Eagles.
Howell has actually already been well traveled in his NFL career.
He was a fifth-round pick by Washington in the 2022 NFL Draft out of North Carolina. He had been viewed entering that final season of college as a potential first-round pick, but a bumpy season knocked him down draft boards.

Howell started 18 games in two seasons in Washington, with a 5-13 record.
He then spent the 2024 season with the Seahawks, briefly with the Vikings after one trade, and then to the Eagles after another trade. He didn't play for any of those teams in regular season action in 2025, though.
Howell has completed a career rate of 62.6% of his passes in the NFL. Those have gone for 4,139 yards.
He has 22 passing TDs and 23 interceptions as an NFL quarterback.
Howell has also run 54 times for 300 yards and six touchdowns in his NFL career.
He likely is a more proven player to be Dak's backup than Milton. We'll have to see what happens next.
