Vikings named possible landing spot for 5-time Pro Bowler

We are now in the thick of NFL free agency and plenty of big names have already reportedly agreed to deals.

To make room for new additions, several notable players have also been released. One of the players who will reportedly be released is Aaron Jones, who has been the primary running back for the Minnesota Vikings for the last two seasons.

With Jones gone, the Vikings will need to find a new workhorse running back. Luckily, there could be a five-time Pro Bowler available on the trade market.

The New Orleans Saints made a big move early in free agency, signing running back Travis Etienne. That move may make Alvin Kamara expendable, and one analyst thinks the Vikings are a realistic trade partner in that case.

Regarding Kamara and the Vikings, Bleacher Report's Alex Kay suggested the following trade package:

New Orleans Saints receive: 2026 sixth-round draft pick (No. 196)

Minnesota Vikings receive: RB Alvin Kamara

Kay then offered the following analysis:

According to the Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Vikings were one of the teams interested in signing Travis Etienne before the free agent back elected to join the Saints. While it may have stung the Vikings to lose out on Etienne, the former Jacksonville Jaguar's presence in New Orleans could open another option for Minnesota.

Trading for Kamara would help patch the hole created by Jones' release. While the Vikings still have Jordan Mason in the fold and are likely to elevate him to the RB1 spot, Kamara would make an ideal running mate alongside the four-year veteran.

As Kay mentioned, the Vikings were interested in Etienne, so it makes sense that they would be interested in Kamara as well.

Kamara has been one of the best running backs of his generation but he's dealt with several injuries over the years. In 2025, Kamara played in 11 games and rushed for 471 yards and one touchdown.

In addition to being an elite runner, Kamara is one of the best pass-catchers out of the backfield as well. The veteran has had at least 400 receiving yards in all but one of his NFL seasons and has earned five Pro Bowl selections.

If the Vikings can get a talent like Kamara for nothing but a late-round pick, they should jump on the opportunity.
