The Dallas Cowboys have to make a move. They've left themselves no choice.
They're $4 million over the salary cap. They have to be under the cap by 12 noon ET on Wednesday, when the new league year begins.
Something has to give.
Luckily, they have an easy solution, as provided by NFL writer Connor Livesay.
"The Cowboys are $4m over the cap right now," Livesay wrote on X on Tuesday night. "They need to be under before 12pm tomorrow. From my understanding they cannot touch Gary’s contract until after the 12pm deadline. Quinnen Williams conversion or extension will get them there and then some."

He then adds that a restructure of Rashan Gary's contract after that deadline can free up $8.7 million more.
The combined moves that he'd expect between Gary and Williams would give the Cowboys $19 million in available cap space.
That actually could be quite relevant, because a lot of players hit the open market as official releases only after the new league year begins. There can potentially be a lot more signings to go.
Dallas entered the offseason in even worse cap shape, but they've already done some restructuring to help their cause, and now they're close.
The Quinnen Williams contract adjustment is the only thing left to do.
All told, the Cowboys have done what they have to do to set themselves up for the season ahead.
