The Dallas Cowboys had a huge need to fill this offseason on offense: surround Dak Prescott with more weapons outside of CeeDee Lamb. In the 2025 NFL Draft, the front office primarily focused on strengthening the team in the trenches on both offense and defense.
Fortunately, the Cowboys have found an answer at the WR2 position when they traded for Pittsburgh Steelers star wideout George Pickens. The deal was shocking as the 24-year-old is an emerging talent with a 1,000+ receiving yard season under his belt. The Cowboys only had to give up a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to get Pickens.
The young wideout is already embracing the expectations that come with playing for “America’s Team.” And Pickens might have a jersey number that’ll make fans nostalgic. According to Cowboys Insider Clarence Hill Jr., Pickens was seen wearing a No. 13 in OTAs, but that could be only temporary.
No. 13 was the jersey of former wideout Michael Gallup, who had a productive six-year career with the franchise. Fans would love to see another player donning this jersey and making plays all over the field.
Overall, Pickens has the talent to make even more of an impact than Gallup did and will be heavily relied upon to carry this receiving core alongside Lamb. With all due respect to 2024 Russell Wilson, Dak Prescott is the best quarterback the former national champion has ever played with. There’s no reason Pickens cannot have a career season with the Cowboys in 2025.
