The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles are both hunting for a linebacker and the NFC East foes have interest in a trade for the same Pittsburgh Steelers Pro Bowler.
According to Nick Harris of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram, that Steelers player is linebacker Patrick Queen, who Pittsburgh has received calls on from a handful of teams, including the Eagles and Cowboys.
"I’m keeping an eye on Patrick Queen at the moment. A handful of teams have called Pittsburgh about a trade here (including the Eagles). Dallas has kept a hand in that mix for this exact scenario, but there are still some things to work through and conversations behind the scenes to be had there," Harris reported.
The scenario Harris mentions is the Cowboys getting shut out of the linebacker market to this point. Dallas entered the offseason with a need at the starting spot alongside DeMarvion Overshown, and that need remains.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have already lost Nakobe Dean to the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency, leaving them with a linebacker to replace.
When it comes to how much Queen could cost, Harris says the Steelers are looking for a mid-round pick. Harris believes Pittsburgh will ultimately get a fifth-rounder.
"Sounds like Pittsburgh is hunting down a mid-round pick. I personally think the best they can get is a fifth-rounder which would work in Dallas’ favor (can’t really give up a 4 or better)," Harris said.
Queen was widely viewed as a cut or trade candidate this offseason. He hasn't been terrible with the Steelers, but he also hasn't played up to his contract.
There are still a few attractive options out there in free agency for Philly and Dallas, a list headlined by Kaden Elliss and Leo Chenal.
Both teams will likely pursue those players and if both fall through, look for the Cowboys and Eagles to possibly pivot to a Queen trade.
