Cowboys’ Dak Prescott reveals how he’s coping after split from ex Sarah Jane Ramos

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has kept most of his personal life out of interviews since training camp began this summer. This week, though, a direct question finally got a direct answer from him.

Nearly five months after calling off his engagement to Sarah Jane Ramos, Prescott sat down with a reporter who asked him plainly how he was actually doing. His response went far beyond football and touched on something much deeper.

The exchange came from a recent sit-down interview with NBC's Newy Scruggs, recorded during training camp in Oxnard, California.

Scruggs asked Prescott directly about the canceled wedding and how he was holding up personally, and Prescott didn't dodge the question at all. "I'm great, I'm blessed. As I said, I'm a follower of Christ," Prescott said. "And just having the faith that I do, it's always been something, a superpower in a sense that I've had is my faith. So, it won't change. I won't even say it gets shaken just because things happen, things don't necessarily go my way or the way that I thought they would, doesn't necessarily affect the way that I wake up each morning. I'm grateful my feet hit the ground. I'm grateful to breathe the air that I do and to be where I'm at."

Prescott continued, connecting his outlook directly to his daughters and his football career. "I've got too many blessings to look at my trials," Prescott said. "And I'm just super thankful to that opportunity that I have to be where I am and to have two amazing daughters, to be able to play the quarterback position for this organization and still inspire so many. Adversity is going to come. It's inevitable. And if you know how to respond to it, you can respond to it consistently, you can get over it."

The wedding, planned for Lake Como, Italy, was called off about five weeks before the ceremony following a bachelor and bachelorette trip to the Bahamas. Prescott and Ramos have since focused on co-parenting their two daughters, Margaret Jane and Aurora Rayne, reaching a temporary custody agreement in April.

Prescott's attorney addressed the custody arrangement directly, saying the two sides agreed to work things out without court intervention for now. Outside the personal storyline, Prescott's on-field reputation has also been part of the conversation, including where he lands on Madden 27's list of the league's top-rated quarterbacks heading into the season.

Other teams have their own offseason storylines developing as camp continues, including how Denver's trade for Jaylen Waddle is already looking like a smart move for a contending roster. Prescott and Ramos have also reunited on a few occasions since the split, including their youngest daughter's first birthday in May.

Prescott enters the season having missed the playoffs each of the last two years, and he has told teammates he intends to change that. For now, he says his faith is what keeps him steady through everything happening off the field.
