The New England Patriots’ blockbuster trade for A.J. Brown and the Los Angeles Rams’ monumental deal for Myles Garrett could signal what’s to come during the next stage of the offseason.
Essentially, additional moves could soon follow the two Monday afternoon trades. CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo thinks the Dallas Cowboys moving on from the breakout star WR after one season could be one of them
“Dallas already said that (George) Pickens will play under the franchise tag, which appears to be a recipe for disaster given his history of self-sabotage when things don't go his way,” DeArdo wrote Tuesday.
“If the Cowboys want to avoid another drama-filled season, they would be better served either giving Pickens a long-term deal or trading him to a team that will.”
“The Cowboys would have options if they were actually compelled to trade Pickens, but the reality is that Dallas will likely sign up for another roller coaster season with their embattled receiver.”
Pickens’ production during his first season with the Cowboys suggests he’s deserving of a long-term deal with Dallas. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver finished third in the NFL in receiving yards in 2025-26 and first on the Cowboys with 1,429 yards, a highly impressive mark alongside his nine touchdowns.
From being an effective YAC (yards after catch) weapon to making acrobatic downfield catches with minimal room to operate, Pickens’ potential was on full display in Year 4. Unfortunately for Pickens, the Cowboys appear poised to take it one step at a time with the 25-year-old, which won’t land Pickens the lucrative and stable contract he’s seeking.
Could the Cowboys’ hesitancy to go all-in on the Ohio State product eventually lead to a trade? Perhaps, but it likely isn’t a feasible option now.
