There are storylines galore in the 2026 NBA Finals.
On Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks will begin the final weeks of the 2025-26 season by clashing on the league's biggest stage. The series begins in San Antonio — and in a rematch of both the 1999 Finals and the NBA Cup this past winter, two of the NBA's deepest, most dominant squads will go head-to-head, each able to make history in their own way with a title.
For the Spurs, everything begins and ends with Victor Wembanyama. At 22 years old, the ultra-talented big man has already skyrocketed from hyped prospect to having a "best in the world" argument — and after dethroning the Thunder, Wembanyama could end this series by sparking new dynasty conversations in San Antonio.
But the Knicks have also been waiting decades for this moment. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and a group of elite wing defenders have guided New York on a dominant playoff run, riding a win streak into the Finals, and one of the NBA's most beloved franchises has finally returned to the grandest stage after years of struggles and shortcomings.
Regardless of the winner, there will be a different NBA champion for the eighth consecutive year in 2026. With Wembanyama, Brunson, Towns and more, plenty of high-level basketball should be on the docket for the 2026 NBA Finals — and it all begins Wednesday.
